OTW takes place six years after Amaterasu put things in order. Although, even though Yami was defeated, hatred still lives in the harts of humans, and some people even still don't believe in the gods.

Amaterasu is finding it difficult to restore her home land, the celestial plain, so she burdens Waka with a special mission.

She gives him four virtues...Will, Agility, Strength, and brains. He must find four beings worthy of these virtues. It will be those beings that are destined to save the world in place of the goddess.

Enter the son of the once satomi warrior Hayabusa, Huiake. Huiake has always dreamed of being a member of the Kusa five, ever since his mother told him stories of the great Amaterasu. He looks up to her more then anything else. One day he is approached by Waka only to learn he has the virtue of, 'Will.'

Joined by the sweet Fumiko, who is 'brains', the bold Nanako, who is 'strength, and the mysterious Jinx, who is 'agility,' Huiake must go on an amazing adventure to fight the creatures that have taken over the western end of Nippon, and are trying to advance to the east...

The deadly and terrifying, Tengu. Led by their lord and master, Great Tengu, who is rumored to be born from Yami's left over hatred, the tengu are slowly destroying the earth.

In order to help Huiake and his friends, Amaterasu sets up a little plan. She gives the three of them a divine weapon, and asks Waka to tell them of her plan. She scatters the thirteen brush gods across Nippon, on purpose this time.

If the four find one of the gods and pass the test they set up, one of the four will gain that brush ability.

Now Tengu aren't the only monsters our heroes must face. Because of the Tengu's power, many, many monsters are being born...But where are they coming from?

Huiake, Fumiko, Nanako, and Jinx will have to go on this great journey, navigating their way through Nippon and gaining information not only from villagers, but from forest creatures as well.

They will, along the way, meet heroes like the celestial envoy Issun, the Oina warrior Oki, and others...

What dangers will they face? What new legends will be etched into the earth forever more...?
